Emerging Public Leaders

Big Idea:

Emerging Public Leaders (EPL) gets promising young people into government ministries and trains them to be much more effective when they get there.

Betsy, a Princeton and Columbia alum, spent years working for an array of organizations focused on poverty. Over time she realized that a huge barrier to progress in poor, post-conflict countries are the huge competency deficit in government civil service. With the help of President Sirleaf, she started a program in Liberia to train young Liberians to thrive in the civil service. EPL is now focused on building the next generation of civil servants across Africa.
