Why we invest

In places of great instability like Eastern Congo, raising the income of poor rural farm families is the best hope for peace and development in the region. Working Villages has been in the 73-mile long Ruzzizi Valley since 2006, investing in agricultural interventions that improve farmers' incomes. Their work is now focused on rebuilding and improving an extensive irrigation system that has been the backbone of agricultural productivity in the valley for over 50 years. For a relatively small investment -- and minimal engineering challenges -- these improvements can quadruple the incomes of thousands of farmers.
