The Great Bubble Barrier designs and deploys an air bubble barrier for rivers that prevents plastics from reaching the ocean, while allowing fish and boats to pass. Their barriers catch 70-80% of surface plastic bigger than 1mm, and they ensure that collected plastic is safely disposed.
Francis worked as a strategy consultant with firms focused on sustainability and cleantech. She holds a masters in sustainable energy and materials. She co-founded Great Bubble Barrier five years ago with two sailing friends. They crowdfunded their first permanent bubble barrier before winning the prestigious Postcode Lotteries Green Challenge in 2018.
