Conservation Stewards Program
The Conservation Stewards Program (a program of Conservation International) pioneered the use of win-win conservation agreements wherein communities get development benefits in exchange for conservation action. CSP has driven 1,200 agreements in across 19 countries that protect 4.4M high-value acres and deliver benefits to 30,000 people.
Margarita spent much of her childhood in Ecuador’s wild places, and she’s been working to bring nature and people together ever since. At her first job after university she worked on one of the world’s first conservation agreements, and she’s spent the last 15 years developing the idea and figuring out how to take it to scale.
