There are tens of millions of primary-school aged kids in Africa that are out of school. Luminos gets these kids back on track with their “Second Chance” model: it delivers the first three years’ worth of learning in 10 intensive months and transitions kids back into mainstream schools to progress with their peers. Their approach was designed to be implemented by others: Luminos provides the curriculum, monitoring efforts, and in some cases the funding for other organizations to deliver the program. This scalable approach shows great promise for getting out-of-school kids, who otherwise would almost certainly be lost, back in school and learning.
